Pick Your Own Slate? It Has to be Merayo

We recently supplied our Merayo roofing slate to Mr and Mrs Price at Ansty Pick Your Own & Farm Shop. Ansty is a small village and civil parish in southwest Wiltshire, England, about 6 miles east of Shaftesbury. The village is just north of the A30 road between Shaftesbury and Salisbury. The parish includes the hamlet of Ansty Coombe. Mrs Price’s family bought the site at Barnfield Farm in October 1998 as a diversification of their nearby dairy farm. Subsequently the dairy farm was sold to enable the family to concentrate on the expansion of the busy Farm Shop and Pick Your Own enterprise. When they first started at the site they operated out of an old tin shack. This was then upgraded to a mobile home and then about 10 years ago they swapped this for a wooden chalet. … Continue reading

What’s in a name?

Mike Farrelly tells us about their flagship product ‘Merayo’ and the story behind the naming of the product. Mike was the buyer for Spanish slate for some 13 years whilst with his previous employer Cembrit, where he also ran the Southampton branch for 25 years. Mike had built up a very close relationship with the suppliers over this time and when he joined The European Slate company he was able to negotiate an exclusive deal with the same suppliers which in turn provided access to the same products he had bought and sold successfully for many years. As the name of the product was marketed under a registered trade name of his previous company we had to find a new name.
